One of the easiest ways to blow a diet is to attend a function with family and friends. Learn some helpful tips for not gaining weight at a party.

Concerned that you’ll be attending a party and won’t be able to control your appetite? It’s no wonder that attending gatherings with friends and family is one of the most popular reasons why dieters fall off of the wagon. Try these tips and tricks for maintaining your weight while still enjoying yourself and being part of the festivities.

Water can take the place of sweets

When you hold and sip a glass of water throughout the night, you will naturally not be reaching for extra food. Physically making it more difficult to reach for sweet foods will make it more difficult to hold your water and grab for food. This works even better if you have something else to hold in the other hand. In addition to making it harder to hold onto other food, you will be filling up on water, which has zero calories.

Hang around the vegetable plate

Still hungry? Scope out the dishes with the fewest calories. A fresh vegetable tray will most likely provide the fewest amount of calories per serving. An added benefit to eating fresh vegetables are the nutrients that you will be consuming which will generally be much more healthy than what you would get from some of the other prepared appetizers.

Bring your own dish

Are you going to a place where you know that the food choices will not be healthy? Try taking your own dish that you have prepared ahead of time. This way you will have time to research low calorie appetizers and dishes and can choose one that will not cause a huge weight gain. Perhaps you could provide the veggie tray this time.

Work out before you attend

If all else fails, try a heavy workout session ahead of time. This way if you do tend to indulge just a little too much, there won’t be too much damage done to your waistline. Not only will you be burning calories before the event, but those who work out with aerobic exercise tend to burn calories throughout the rest of the day. If there is no time to work out before the event, schedule time the following day to get your exercise session in. Working out the following day has the added benefit of knowing that you overindulged the night before which will make you work out harder.

Overeating at a gathering is a worry of many who are trying to watch their diets. Take time to learn methods for reducing your chances of indulging in poor food choices and your weight loss worries will be put to rest.
